Life can put us in a lot of places and it’s Allison Smith’s goal to dress us for the part. Whether it’s a birthday party, anniversary, romantic dinner, holiday party, meeting, date or a stroll in the park, Smith’s label, Allison Wonderland, has the perfect outfit for the occasion. “I design clothes that I want to go out in, go to work in or run errands in,” she says. Instead of working with a theme, the 37-year-old designer likes to work with colour palettes, fabrics and moods. “I have a hard time working within a theme because I feel constraint and I get scattered,” says Smith.
From her more edgy and casual pieces such as plaid button-up shirts and jeans to her more elegant and formal pieces such as playful feminine dresses, pencil skirts and silk blouses, her collections truly embody a woman on the go. Many of her pieces are easy to carry from day to night and due to their minimal nature, they leave a lot of room for accessories.
While her spring/summer lines feature neutral palettes of white, beige, grey and pale shades of pink and yellow, her fall/winter collections typically have a dark colour palette, with pop colours in pink and purple.
Her garments are sold nationally across Canada throughout various stores such as Future of Frances Watson in Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood and Distill in the Distillery District.
