Kids can now have their fun and eat it too with edible play-dough. You can hear children rejoicing everywhere in the distance.
Parents should be thrilled as well. If your children are at the age where they prefer eating their art supplies rather than being creative, you’ll enjoy this rainy day, bored-of-just-colouring activity.
Here are five fun, edible play-dough recipes that are a non-toxic, delicious, exciting take on a traditional craft.
1. Peanut Butter Play-Dough
Peanut butter? Oh this is heavenly. I doubt any child will be molding towers or animals with this dough, but will rather scoff it down as soon as they get their tiny hands on it.
3 ½ cups peanut butter
4 cups confectioners’ sugar
3 ½ cups honey
4 cups powdered milk
a. Gather all ingredients, mixer and mixing bowl.
b. Cream together peanut butter and
confectioners’
sugar.
c. Beat in honey.
d. Fold in milk powder.
e. Divide into portions and give to the kids for their little hands and creative minds to enjoy!
f. When not using, MUST be stored in an airtight container.
2. Kool-Aid Play-Dough
You can still make edible play-dough the vibrant colours like the original. This dough will be the color of the Kool-Aid mix and will smell like the Kool-Aid mix of your choosing.
1 cup flour
1 cup water
½ cup salt
3 tsp cream of tartar
1 pkg Kool-Aid mix (any flavour of unsweetened)
1 tbsp cooking oil
a. Mix flour, salt, cream of tartar and Kool-Aid mix together in a large saucepan.
b. Mix water with oil in a cup.
c. Place the saucepan on the stove and turn the burner to medium heat.
d. Slowly add the water mixed with oil and stir (over medium heat) until the mixture thickens to play-dough.
e. Place play-dough on cutting board and knead until cool.
f. Divide into portions and give to children to have fun, eat and get creative!
3. Frosting Play-Dough
Who needs an excuse to make cakes or cupcakes in order to eat frosting? This edible play-dough recipe gives anyone that easy excuse to have some finger-licking good frosting.
1 can frosting (any flavour — chocolate, vanilla, et cetera)
1½ cups powdered sugar
1 cup creamy peanut butter
a. Mix together with spoon and hands in a large bowl until it reaches desired consistency.
b. Give to children to eat and play with!
4. Oatmeal Play-Dough
Mmm… oatmeal. If your child likes oatmeal in the morning or oatmeal cookies as a snack, this activity is the perfect solution to an oatmeal craving. This play-dough is sticky, but unique in texture and for every child to enjoy.
1 cup flour
2 cups oatmeal
1 cup water
a. Gradually add water to flour and oatmeal in bowl.
b. Knead until mixed.
c. Give to kids to play with their hands and enjoy some oatmeal.
5. Chocolate Play-Dough
What child can resist chocolate — for that matter, can anyone? This chocolate play-dough smells delicious and tastes wonderful. Everyone will want to join in on the fun!
8 oz semi sweet chocolate
¼ to 1/3 cup light corn syrup
a. Take a pan of water and heat until gently simmering.
b. Set a metal bowl over the pan and
use that to gently melt the chocolate. Stir until smooth and then stir in
the syrup. The chocolate will begin to harden very quickly so make sure
the mix is thoroughly combined.
c. Once mixed, transfer the mixture
to a plastic bag and refrigerate until cool. The consistency should be like
regular play-dough but if it is too firm, not enough syrup was
added.
d. Knead dough and break into
smaller pieces.•
